Background
Espírito Santo will receive up to 4.5 billion reais of investment for the President Kennedy Power Station which will provide power for 3.5 million households.[6] The two-unit power station project is planned to connect with the proposed Presidente Kennedy FSRU import terminal and a gas pipeline (two segments).[7] The estimated generating capacity of each unit has increased from 440 MW to 575 MW since the plant was first announced.[8][9][10][11][12]
The Presidente Kennedy power station received its preliminary license from Espírito Santo's state environmental authority in July 2019, followed by an installation license in February 2020.[13]
Both units of the Presidente Kennedy plant were listed as participants in Brazil's national energy auctions in September and December 2021[10][14], but did not emerge victorious at either auction.[15]
