Background

Discovered in 2007, the field began production two years later in 2009. At that time, it was deemed "the Western Hemisphere's largest oil discovery in 30 years."[9]

In 2010, Petrobras renamed the field from Tupi[9] to Lula.[10] In 2020, following a citizen lawsuit, a court ordered Petrobras to rename the field from Lula back to Tupi.[10] The non-contracted portion is Tupi Leste or East Tupi. Tupi Leste belongs to the federal government and is represented by Pré-Sal Petróleo S.A. or PPSA.[10]
