Background

Once hailed as Colombia's largest prospective natural gas plant, the Nencol 5 power station (also known as Termo Induenergy) appeared for many years as a 2240 MW project on the Nencol website[5] and on the Colombian government's list of future power projects.[6]

However, as of October 2022 the Nencol 5 plant had been dropped from the government's lists of active projects[7] (after appearing on the September list[8]), and Nencol has subsequently removed all mention of the 2240 MW project from its website.[9]

As of October 2024, despite the target implementation date of January 2, 2025 still appearing on the UPME website[10], there had been no further news about the power plant for more than two years, implying that the project had been shelved.
