Project-level coal details

Background on Project

In 2014 it was reported that China Guodian (now National Energy Investment Group) was planning to build a two-unit coal-fired power plant with a total capacity of 2,000 MW in Hunan Province.[3][4]

There were no further developments until September 2020, when the project was listed in Hunan Province's 14th Five Year Plan.[5]

In May 2023, it was announced that the project involved two phases, consisting of 2 x 1,000 MW each. The company had already received project approval for Phase I (2 x 1,000 MW) and planned to complete that feasibility study review in early June, complete the project permitting procedure in July, and start construction by the end of the year.[6][7][8]

Ownership

On August 28, 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[9][10] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[11]

In February 2023, it was reported that the project would be carried out by Changan Huazhong Power Generation Co., Ltd..[12]
