The Holfontein coal project is a proposed mine site in the Witbank Coalfield in South Africa. The owners of the deposit, Coal of Africa, sold the rights in 2017. There have been no updates on future development in the area and the project is likely shelved.[1]

Background
On its website, Coal of Africa Limited states that "Holfontein is located near the middle of Sasol’s Secunda coal production area. It has remained undeveloped due to interpreted geological complexity."[2]
In CoAL's 2017 Annual Report, they announced they had sold the rights to the Holfontein thermal coal project in 2017,[1] which they had been trying to offload since at least 2014.[3]
