Project-level coal details

Background

The six existing coal-fired units of Huainan Luohe power station, totaling 2,500 MW, were brought online between 1985 and 2010 in three phases. The plant is owned by China Datang.[5][6][7][8]

In 2010, two 600 MW units were upgraded to 630 MW each.[9] As of 2014, the configuration of the plant was as follows:[10][11]

  • Unit 1 - 300 MW - operating 1985 (subcritical)
  • Unit 2 - 300 MW - operating 1986 (subcritical)
  • Unit 3 - 300 MW - operating 1998 (subcritical)
  • Unit 4 - 300 MW - operating 1999 (subcritical)
  • Unit 5 - 600 MW - operating 2007 (supercritical) - upgraded to 630 MW in 2010
  • Unit 6 - 600 MW - operating 2007 (supercritical) - upgraded to 630 MW in 2010

Description of Phase IV Expansion

As of November 2012, Datang was planning to build an additional 1,000-MW coal-fired unit.[5] A feasibility study was carried out in 2011.[12][12][13][13][14]

However, there had been no news on the project since its 2011 feasibility study, and it appeared to be deferred or abandoned.

In August 2023, the Phase IV proposal was revived, now with 2 x 1,000 MW units. The announcement stated that when the Phase IV units were operational, the 2 x 320 MW Phase I would be retired.[15]

In November 2023, Phase IV was approved by the Provincial Development and Reform Commission.[16]
