Background

The two existing coal-fired units of Huaneng Laiwu power station, totaling 660 MW, were brought online in 2009. The plant's first three units have been retired. The plant is majority-owned by China Huaneng.[1]

Description of Expansion

Huaneng is currently building two additional coal-fired units at this plant, units 6-7, with a total planned capacity of 2,000 MW. The construction contract was awarded in 2013.[2][3]

Unit 6 was commissioned in December 2015.[4] Unit 7 was commissioned in November 2016.[5]
