Background on Project
Pearl River Investment is planning to build a coal-fired power plant with a total planned capacity of 1,200 MW in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.[1][2]
The project's 2014 environmental impact assessment stated the power station would be 1,320 MW (2 x 660 MW) and ultra-supercritical technology,[3] but was later reported as supercritical technology. Construction is planned for 2015.[4]
Construction began in September 2017. The project is described as sending power outside the region to Tianjin,[5] which would likely make it exempt from restrictions on new coal plants under China's "red light" policy. Planet shows the construction progress from August 2017 to January 2019.
Unit 1 was commissioned in July 2021, and unit 2 in September 2021.[6]
