Background
In July 2014, Nishat Chunian Power Limited signed a letter of interest with Punjab Power Development Board (PPDB) for setting up a 660 MW coal plant in Jhang. The project would be sponsored by a consortium comprising Nihsat Chunain Limited, DG Khan Cement Company, and Adamjee Insurance Company.[1]
The project was one of two 660 MW plants proposed for Jhang. The other was Jhang Nishat Mills power station, sponsored by Nihsat Mills Limited, Lalpir Power Limited, and Pakgen Power Limited. The Energy Department was set to help with land acquisition for both projects.[1]
In June 2016, Nichat Chunian announced that it was abandoning the project, due to "logistics issues."[2]
