Background
Kostromovskaya Coal Mine (шахта Костромовская) is an underground mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. MMK-Ugol LLC owns and operates the mine, which is owned by Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works.[8] The other mine owned by the company is Chertinskaya-Koksovaya coal mine.
MMK-Ugol also owns the Belovskaya coal washing plant that produces coal concentrate received from the Kostromoskaya coal mine and Chertinskaya-Koksovaya coal mine. Most of the coal concentrate is used in MMK's steel production. The two mines cover about 40% of the Group's coking coal needs.[9] The mine temporally shut down in March 2022 due to an accident.[10]
