Background
Originally, the Mittelsburen Power Station in Bremen was proposed by SWB to have an installed capacity of 900 megawatts and cost 1 billion euros to construct. In April 2008 Power in Europe reported that the project had been cancelled in August 2007 with the company "blaming rising generation equipment costs". In February 2007 the project had been estimated to cost €700 million.[5]
According to Deutsche Umwelthilfe, the company decided in 2011 to build a 450 MW gas plant instead of a coal plant.[6] The new turbine is a 445 MW combined cycle unit, capable of burning both gas and hydrogen within its mix of fuels.[7]
