Background

Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port consists of a "dual submerged turret-loading buoy system and an approximately 16-mile pipeline connecting to the existing subsea HubLine pipeline operated by Algonquin Gas Transmission." The pipeline is capable of delivering natural gas at a rate of up to 600 MMcf/d.[3]

The terminal is connected to the Northeastern natural gas grid through a pipeline lateral built by Algonquin Gas Transmission.[3] Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port is owned and operated by Excelerate Energy.[4] The Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port was first operational in 2008.[5] The Boston Globe reported in 2013 that the Northeast Gateway Deepwater Port received a few shipments during its first years of operations, but has sat idle since 2010.[6]

In February 2019 Excelerate said that two of its regasification vessels imported LNG to New England's energy demand during extreme cold weather.[7]

In January 2022, Argus Media reported that the vessel had delivered gas for the first time since 2019.[8]

According to the 2024 GIIGNL report, no vessel is chartered at the facility.[2]
