Port of Fangchenggang (also known as the Fangcheng Port) is in Fangchenggang Prefecture, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China.
Location
The port is situated on the north bank of Beibu Bay and is the farthest hub port on the southwest coast of China.
Background
In 2013 Fangchenggang handled more than 100 million tonnes of cargo, mainly coal, iron ore and fertiliser.[1] That year the port's imported coal stocks hovered above 6 million tonnes a month, or around 72 million tonnes for the year.[2]
Throughout 2019 and 2020, large numbers of coal imports from Australia were restricted from entering the Fangchenggang Port (as well as other ports) due to oversupply from the previous year, as well as other political tensions between the two countries. These limitations led to many delays in coal offloads at the port.[3]
In early 2021, a new channel to South Africa from the Fangcheng Port was set up to facilitate coal imports from the company China Energy in South Africa.[4]
