Background on Mine

The Ramagundam Opencast -I Coal Mine Project is operated by Singareni Collieries Company Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, on an area of 923.88 Ha in Julapalli, Mandal Ramagiri, District Peddapally, State Telangana, India.

The OCP-1 has been operational since 1974 when it was launched by the then Chief Minister Jalagam Vengal Rao. The project started operating at a capacity of 1.5 MTPA and then received permission for expansion in lease area from 503.0 ha to 710.13 ha. with the same capacity and granted Environment Clearance 11 September 2006.

The project further received environment clearance for phase 2 expansion for a peak capacity of 3.3 MTPA on a 923.88 Ha on 31 July 2008. This expansion was achieved by merger of two mines, GDK 10 UG mine of 1.5 MTPA and Ramagundam Opencast -I Expansion Coal Mine Project of 1.5 MTPA on an area of 923.88 Ha.
