Background on Mine
The Ramagundam Opencast -I Coal Mine Project is operated by Singareni Collieries Company Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, on an area of 923.88 Ha in Julapalli, Mandal Ramagiri, District Peddapally, State Telangana, India.[6]
The OCP-1 has been operational since 1974 when it was launched by the then Chief Minister Jalagam Vengal Rao.[7] The project started operating at a capacity of 1.5 MTPA and then received permission for expansion in lease area from 503.0 ha to 710.13 ha. with the same capacity and granted Environment Clearance 11 September 2006.[8]
The project further received environment clearance for phase 2 expansion for a peak capacity of 3.3 MTPA on a 923.88 Ha on 31 July 2008. This expansion was achieved by merger of two mines, GDK 10 UG mine of 1.5 MTPA and Ramagundam Opencast -I Expansion Coal Mine Project of 1.5 MTPA on an area of 923.88 Ha.[9]
