Background
In 2023, owner Heidelberg Materials announced plans to implement the CIRCO2BETON project which aims to reduce carbon of cement production by recycling concrete waste. The recycled concrete will be separated into its constituent parts (sand, aggregates, and recycled concrete paste) to be reused in cement and concrete production. The recycled concrete paste will be recarbonated at the Ranville plant to act as a carbon sink and will replace clinker in new low-carbon cement types.
