Background
In July 2020, SK Group announced that it was considering a US$600 million LNG project in Sri Lanka. SK Group, South Korea's third largest conglomerate (Chaebol) is currently in talks with the Sri Lankan authorities on the establishment of a number of investment ventures in Sri Lanka, including an LNG project. The proposed project would supply LNG to 930 MW power plants in Sri Lanka, running on a Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) basis.[1][2][3]
There have been no development updates in over two years, and the project is presumed shelved as of 2022.
