Muara Satui Barge Port is an anchorage point in the Java Sea, off the southern coast of Kalimantan, Indonesia.
Location
The map below shows the location of the Muara Satui Barge Port off the southern coast of Kalimantan.
Background
Coal from Satui coal mine is transloaded from barges onto oceangoing ships. There are several coal-processing and barge-loading facilities located along the southern coast of Kalimantan, including near the mouth of the Satui river. The anchorage also handles nickel ore and iron ore.[1][2]
The anchorage is capable of processing up to 10 million tonnes of coal per year, according to the company's website from 2021.[3]
An industry source reported that the Muara Satui exported 8.5 million tonnes of coal 2022 and 14.5 million tonnes in 2023.[4][5]
Satui coal mine's production was 2.9 million tonnes in 2023, ad 2.7 million tonnes in 2022 so it's likely that coal from other mines is handled at the anchorage. In 2023, joint coal production of PT Arutmin Indonesia mines reached 24.3 million (up from 21.9 million tonnes in 2022).[6] The other coal terminal owned by PT Arutmin is the North Pulau Laut Coal Terminal.
