Background
As part of its Unified Gas Supply System, Gazprom has released a map that includes pipelines that connect to existing underground gas storage facilities in central Russia.[4] The pipeline will connect to the Kovykta-Sayansk-Irkutsk Gas Pipeline and Power of Siberia 2 Gas Pipeline.[1] As of July 2023, there have not been any updates about the project. The pipeline is still marked as "prospective/under construction" on the map included in the Gazprom's 2022 Annual Report.[5]
In November 2023, it was reported that Gazprom was conducting geological exploration for potential construction of underground gas storage facilities in the Far East and Eastern Siberia, including in the Angara segment of the Irkutsk region.[6]
Construction of the Angarskaya underground gas storage facility was not mentioned in the Gazprom's 2023 Annual Report released in June 2024. The pipeline was removed from the map published as part of the document. The project is considered to be cancelled.[2]
