Background

An environmental impact assessment for the Sealine Tirrenica gas pipeline project was underway in 2008. Later on, the project was featured in Snam Rete Gas S.p.A's 2016 "New Capacity Implementation and Development Plan for the Transportation Network."

Although there has been little additional movement since, the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas included it in 2022 TYNDP as "Section 1" of Snam Rete Gas S.p.A.'s "Additional Southern developments" (TRA-N-9) with an expected commissioning date in 2034.
