Background
Czechnica Power Station is owned by Kogeneracja S.A., a Polish power company owned 50:50 by EDF Group. The power station consists of two 50 MW units and one unit of 32 MW, commissioned in 1955.[10]
PGE acquired EDF's Polish assets in 2017.[11] The company proposed building a new combined-cycle unit at the existing Siechnice site, which would replace the coal units.[12] Polimex Mostostal S.A. was provisionally chosen as the construction company in January, 2021.[13]
Construction of the cogeneration unit began in October 2021.[14]
As of October 2023, the commissioning of the new gas-fired unit, along with the retirement of the coal-fired units, was expected in early 2024.[15]
