Barru power station is an operating power station of at least 100-megawatts (MW) in Lampoko, Balusu, Barru, South Sulawesi, Indonesia with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating. It is also known as 巴鲁火电站.

Background on Units 1 and 2
The two-unit, 100-MW Barru-1 coal-fired power plant was built by PLN and went online in 2013.[2]
March 2024 reporting stated that Barru-1 began co-firing with biomass in 2023.[3] In January 2024, Unit 1 had a successful trial run using 100% biomass.[4] As of February 2024, both units had reportedly burned 100% wood pellets successfully.[5]
Barru-2
In November 2015, it was reported that an additional 100 MW has been pre-qualified for tender.[6]
The units are listed in the Indonesia Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) 2017-2026, with a planned operation date of 2019.[7]
In November 2017 a joint venture of PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk and Mitsubishi Corporation secured the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract for the project.[8] In July 2018 construction of Barru-2 began.[9] In March 2019 construction of Barru-2 was reported to be 20% complete.[10] In January 2020 construction of Barru-2 was reported to be 70% complete.[11] In March 2021 construction of Barru-2 was 78% complete, with a targeted commissioning date of 2022.[12] In September 2021 construction of Barru-2 was 90% complete.[13]
In April 2022, it was reported that the Sulsel Barru-2 power station was synchronized. The unit was targeted to operate commercially (COD) by October 2022.[14][15]
In early 2023, the expansion was listed as a 2022 achievement.[16] The unit was presumed to be fully built, but it was unclear that it had reached Commercial Operation (COD).
In June 2023, staff were pictured conducting a "Work Progress Check for Construction Supervision of PLTU Sulsel Barru Unit 3", suggesting that construction work was ongoing.[17] Planet imagery showed minimal visible construction progress between January and November 2023.
In November 2023, PLN completed a performance test for Phase II Unit 1.[18]
Financing
Barru-2: In 2015, it was reported that the project will be financed by corporate loan to PLN or the minimum amount of 70% (excluding VAT) of the contract price and the remaining will be financed by PLN’s own budget. At least 50 percent of the loan portion shall be covered under Export Credit Agency and the remaining loan portion shall be covered by the lenders or any other sources without government guarantee and no collateral.[19]
