Background
Tunas Enerji Elektrik Uretim A.Ş. has received a license for a 100 MW coal plant at Ceyhan.[1]
The license is separate from that received for the 100 MW Hakan Enerji power station in Ceyhan, proposed by Hakan Enerji, which applied for environmental licensing in August 2010.[2] After Hakan received a license for the project,[3] the license was challenged by a lawsuit. Hakan subsidiary Tunas Enerji Elektrik Uretim AS then sought and received a separate license for the 100 MW coal-fired power station at the same site. As of May 2016, it appears the Tunas proposal is moving forward and Hakan Enerji has been cancelled.[4]
According to the Turkey Energy Market Regulatory Authority website (December 2017), the power station's operating license was cancelled.[5] As of December 2019 there has been no progress on the project in more than four years, and it appears to be cancelled.
