Background
The Aduunchuluun Coal Mine (or Aduun Chuluun) is an operating surface coal mine near the city of Choibalsan, in Bayantümen District, Dornod Province, Mongolia.[4]The Aduunchuluun coal mine is operated by Aduunchuluun Coal Mining Company. The Mongolia-based Mongolyn Alt Corporation (MAK Corporation) owns the mine.[5]
The mine started working in the field of underground mining in 1955 and is currently operating as an open pit mine. The company supplies coal to domestic consumers and enterprises of the Eastern Province and the state-owned "Eastern Region Energy System".[6]
The mine has a capacity of 600,000 tons per year.[7][5] It was privatized in 1999.[8]
In 2018 it was reported the mine was on the verge of stopping coal mining due to overlapped license. Since it began operating (presumably - since the privatization in 1999, Aduunchuluun company has been conducting surface and underground mining, made overburden removals on 28.4 million cubic meter area and extracted 14.9 million tons of coal.[9] However in 2023 the mine was still operating and provided normal supply of coal.[6]
