Background
In February 2023, the deputy manager of Xinjiang Energy Group approved of a new ultra-supercritical coal-fired power project of 2 x 660 MW with the Aksu Regional Administrative Office. [1] The new coal project in Aksu, Xinjiang Province, China was signed on alongside a 4 GW photovoltaic power project, which together were intended to enhance the "flexible adjustment and security supply capabilities of the southern Xinjiang power grid" (Google Translate). [2]
It was reported that the project would address a capacity gap in the middle and late stages of China's 14th five-year plan, so the plant will presumably be commissioned by 2025.[2]
