Background
Anshun power station consists of four 300 MW units. The first two units were brought online in 1998, and the second two units in 2003. The second two 300MW units were built for Electricity Transmission From West to East Project. The electricity it generates supplies Guangdong Province.[1]
Description of Expansion
China Guodian planned to expand the plant by two units, 5 and 6, totaling 1,200 MW.[2][3]
The expansion received permit for construction from provincial DRC in March 2015 for two 660 MW units.[4]
Construction was planned to begin in 2021.[5]
As of 2023, the expansion (Units 5 and 6) had not appeared to be making progress in the news or company announcements since its permitting in 2015. Though the expansion appeared in a news article in July 2019, there were no reports of further development.[6] Thus, the proposed units were presumed to be cancelled.
Ownership
The first two units were owned 60:40 by China Guodian and Guizhou Investment Group. Units 3 & 4 were owned by CLP Group (70%), China Huadian Corp (18%), and Guizhou Development and Investment Corp (12%).[7] In 2010, CLP Group sold its 70% shares of Unit 3 & 4 to China Guodian for ¥750 million, making Guodian the controlling shareholder of unit 3 & 4.[8][9]
On August 28 2017, China's State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council (SASAC) announced that China Guodian Corporation and Shenhua Group will be jointly restructured. Shenhua Group will become China National Energy Investment Group and will absorb China Guodian Corporation. It will be the largest power company in the world by installed capacity, as well as the world's largest coal producer.[10][11] The merger was completed on November 28, 2017.[12]
