Background

Apartak Coal Mine is a surface coal mine in Ahangaran, Tashkent Region, Uzbekistan. The Apartak coal mine is owned and operated by Uzbekkomir JSC (Uzbekugol), which is a state-owned company. The Apartak mine is adjacent to the bigger Angren coal mine.

The mine once produced a fractional share- 50,000 tonnes- but in 2020 produced 400,000 tonnes with plans to boost expansion to 1 million tonnes.[1]

A notice published in October 2022 by Uzbekugol stated that 2022 production will reach 0.5 million tonnes and will stay at that level in 2023-2026.[2]

As per reporting from March 2024, production reached 0.45 Mt in 2020, 0.77 Mt in 2021, 0.47 Mt in 2022 and increased to 0.83 Mt in 2023.[3]
