Background

ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel India in November 2024, announced its intend to set up an integrated steel plant with a capacity of 24 million tonnes per year in Anakapalle district, Andhra Pradesh. The plant will be set up with a total investment of INR 15 lakh crore and is planned to be built in two phases. The first stage will see the construction of a blast furnace with a capacity of 7.3 million tonnes per year, while the second stage the capacity will be expanded to 24 million tonnes per year.[1][2] The first phase of the steel plant is expected to be completed by January 2029 and the second phase by 2033.[2] The construction of the plant is scheduled to begin in early 2025.[3]
