Background
In January 2023, Odisha government approved ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel's plans to built a 7 mtpa greenfield integrated steel plant in Paradip, Odisha with an investment of INR 38,000 crore.[1] The State government of Odisha allotted 1,485 acres land for the plant. The company owns an iron ore mine, a slurry pipeline and a pellet plant in Paradip. The joint venture plans on breaking ground for the proposed plant by January 2024.[2][3] As of December 2023, the technology planned for the plant seem to have not been disclosed. The public hearing of the project was held in January 2024, when majority of the attendees favoured the project.[4]
