Background

In January 2023, Odisha government approved ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel's plans to built a 7 mtpa greenfield integrated steel plant in Paradip, Odisha with an investment of INR 38,000 crore.[1] The State government of Odisha allotted 1,485 acres land for the plant. The company owns an iron ore mine, a slurry pipeline and a pellet plant in Paradip. The joint venture plans on breaking ground for the proposed plant by January 2024.[2][3] As of December 2023, the technology planned for the plant seem to have not been disclosed.
