Background

The Argentina GNL pipeline was proposed in 2024 to transport gas from the shale gas fields of Vaca Muerta to the newly announced Argentina GNL terminal in Río Negro province. Gas transported through the pipeline would be liquefied at the Argentina GNL terminal for export to other countries.[1][2]

The pipeline was announced as a three-phase project, with the first phase to be completed by 2027.[1][2] Early reports indicated that the pipeline would be 640 km in length[1][2] and 36 inches in diameter[1], but as of September 2024 the project's capacity, route, and the exact nature of the individual phases remained unclear.
