Background
In December 2021, US-based Eagle LNG Partners announced that it had entered into an agreement with the Aruba-based power and water utility WEB to construct a new LNG import terminal at the idled RdA refinery on Aruba's southwest coast. The proposed terminal would receive, store and regasify LNG imported from Eagle LNG's export facility in Jacksonville, Florida[2][4], and then send it via pipeline[5] to WEB's RECIP (Balashi) power plant.[1][2]
In April 2022, Eagle LNG's vice president estimated that the new LNG terminal would be commissioned by 2024.[7] In March 2023, a company press release made it clear that the long-term LNG supply contract between Eagle LNG and WEB's parent company Utilities Aruba NV remained in effect.[4] However, as of September 2024, the most recent news about the project on Eagle LNG's website dated to May 2023, and the timeline for the terminal's development remained unclear.[5]
