Background

New construction (CC1)

The project had been announced to be frozen until 2021 in 2015.[12] There have been no updates since 2021. The project was not included in the scheme and program for the development of the Unified Energy System of Russia for 2022-2028[13] or the Russian Ministry of Energy 2023-2028 energy program issued in February 2023.[14] As of November 2023, the project is considered shelved. In September 2023, En+ Group had to abandon another modernization project, which aimed to increase the installed capacity of the power station by 60 MW. The cancellation was attributed to the escalated project costs.[15]

Modernization (Unit 9)

In February 2020, the modernization of Unit 9 (without replacement of the turbine) by April 2025 was approved by the Government of Russia.[16] In February 2025, the project was cancelled by the owner. The justification for the cancellation of the project was the rising equipment costs and the expected negative impact on the company's financial results.[17]
