Background
Azura-Edo is an independent power producer (IPP) committed to contributing to the growth of the energy sector in Nigeria. The power plant was designed to help close Nigeria’s greater than 10000 MW energy gap.[9]
There is a possibility for future expansions to reach a target generation combined cycle capacity of 1,500 MW.[10]Construction of the 461 MW is the first of three phases.[11]
In January 2016, the construction of the plant started.[11]
In April 2018, the plant’s first phase was completed, six months ahead of the schedule.[11]
As of June 2022, the plant had received US $890 million in investments since its inception.[10]
