Background
Baitao cogen power station is a 2 x 50 MW coal-fired power station in Yanjia Town, Changshou District. It was commissioned in 2012 and is owned by Chongqing Chemical & Pharmaceutical Group.[2]
A 2 x 60 MW expansion is planned. It was permitted for construction on May 8, 2020.[3]
According to the EIA report in 2020, there are two power & heat sources in the related industrial park: One is Baitao Industrial Park Heat Island Center power station (2 x 50 MW). The other one is this project, the Baitao Cogen power station. The existing project appeared to involve 15 MW + 20 MW + 50 MW of capacity, with an additional 50 MW under construction.
The plan involved demolishing 15 MW + 20 MW, and building 2 x 60 MW, for a final targeted opearting capacity of 2 x 50 MW and 2 x 60 MW.
According to satellite imagery in 2022, two smaller units have been demolished and new boilers are installed. It is unclear whether all units are completed or not.
In June 2022, the Chongqing Municipal Development and Reform Commission published a construction permit approval document.[4]
