Background
Bangka Baru power station is a 60 MW coal-fired power station.[1]
In October 2022, a 100% conversion from coal to palm kernel shells, a form of biomass, was tested at the power station for several days. The units co-fired with 5% palm kernel shells throughout 2022.[2]
In April 2023, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources identified Bangka Baru power station as a potential target for an early retirement program.[3]
As of February 2024, 1,500 tons of wood chips for co-firing had reportedly been supplied to the power station.[4] As of March 2024, a factory to process wood chips for Bangka Baru power station was reportedly in development.[5]
