In January 2019 the European Union awarded €27 million to Bulgartransgaz for the rehabilitation and partial replacement of the pipeline.[6] According to the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) Ten Year Network Development Plan (TYNDP), the Beglej-Dermantsi-Batultsi-Kalugerovo Pipeline update is a part of the "modernization and rehabilitation of the Bulgarian GTS" (known as "TRA-F-298").
Bulgartransgaz 2020-2029 TYNDP states it is "envisaged that the construction will take place in the period 2020–2021."[5]
ENTSOG stated that the modernization and rehabilitation project was expected to be commissioned in 2024.[8]
However, the 2022–2031 TYNDP of Bulgartransgaz notes that the project has been commissioned as of January, 2022.[7]
