Belvedere Coal Project is a coal mine project proposed by Aquila Resources/Vale. The project is located 7 kilometres north-east of Moura in the southern part of the Bowen Basin region of Queensland
The Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics states that a pre-feasibility study on the project has been completed and a notional commissioning date set at 2016. The project, which would produce 7 million tonnes of hard coking coal, would cost $2.8 billion to construct. The project would employ 500 during construction.[1]
On its website, Aquila states that "in August 2008 three Mining Lease applications were lodged over areas proposed for the development of mining operations. The Mining Lease applications are an integral stage in the advancement of the Belvedere Coal Project and planning is underway for the commencement of environmental baseline studies and related community consultation activities with all key stakeholders in this significant project development. Subject to completion of all necessary feasibility studies and receipt of relevant regulatory approvals, the Belvedere Coal Project is planned to commence exporting coal in 2014."[2] (The Aquila webpage is undated so the ABARE estimate of the commissioning date is most likely the best estimate).
