Background

In October 2021, construction of units 1-5 was already underway.[26] The turbines were delivered on-site and installed. Construction of associated infrastructure was underway. The project was expected to be completed in two phases: Phase I would include the commissioning of units GT3 and GT4, and Phase II of the remaining units GT1, GT2, and GT 5. The project was expected to be commissioned by 2022.[26] Construction was ongoing in April 2022.[27]Siemens supplies the gas turbines for the construction of units GT1-GT5.[26] After the start of the war, Siemens put all new business and international deliveries to Russia and Belarus on hold.[28] As of October 2022, the consequences for the delivery, operations, and maintenance of existing and planned Siemens gas turbines is unclear.[29]Units CC3 and CC4 are to retire in 2025, following the commissioning of the Astravets nuclear power plant.[30]As of October 2022, the completion of construction works on units GT1-5 was postponed from 2022 to 2023.[31]

In August 2023, it was reported that SCADA software designed for automation of operational-dispatch and operational-technical control of the power station had been installed at the plant.[32] As of December 2023, there have not been any further updates.

In March 2024, it was reported that the construction was in its final stage and the new units were expected to be commissioned within 1-1.5 months.[33][34] Since the start of the project implementation, the total investment amount has exceeded RUB 450 million. Once built, the new units will be providing capacity reserve for the country's first nuclear power plant in case of outages.[35] As of May 2024, there have not been any further updates.
