Background on Mine

The 61.83 million tonne-per-annum Talcher coal mines are owned by Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (a subsidiary of state-owned Coal India).[7] The Lingaraj mine is part of the cluster.[8]

In 2019 a landslide killed four miners and injured at least ten more. Debris from the slide trapped miners inside the mine. [9]
