Background
On its website sponsor VISA Power states that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Government of Gujarat for the development of the project near Pipavav Port to enable the use of imported coal. The company states that power from the project will be supplied "to industrial consumers in Gujarat and other power deficit states in the Northern and Western Region." The company states that "sea water shall be utilized for condenser cooling". It also states that the company is exploring "investment opportunities in Indonesia, Australia & South Africa to secure the imported coal requirement for the project".[1]
However, as of March 2015 there are no permits for the project, and it appears to be shelved or abandoned.
