Background
In October 2024, NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL) and Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd. (RVUNL) signed a Joint Venture (JV) agreement to develop a 3 x 125 MW lignite power station and associated coal mines in Rajasthan. NLCIL held 74% of the JV and RVUNL held 26%.[3][4][5]
In December 2024, the NLC India webpage on “Upcoming Projects” stated that “[p]reliminary activities for the preparation of Feasibility Report are under progress.”[6]
Reporting from January 2025 suggested that the proposed power station would be located in the Bikaner district.[7]
Financing
In February 2025, the board directors of NLC India in principle approved to invest up to 1,110 Crore (ca USD 130 million) as equity in the joint venture company to be incorporated between NLC India and RVUNL to develop the power plant and lignite mines. Other sources of funding were unknown, as of March 2025.[8]
