Binchang power station (大唐彬长发电厂) is an operating power station of at least 1260-megawatts (MW) in Randian Town Mawu Village, Changwu, Xianyang, Shaanxi, China with multiple units, some of which are not currently operating. It is also known as 马屋电厂, Datang Binchang power station.

Background on power station
The existing power station is a 2 x 630 MW power station in the city of Xianyang. The units went into operation in 2009. The power station is owned by China Datang and Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry Group.[1]
Expansion
China Datang has proposed a 2 x 1,000 MW expansion of the power station, raising the plant's total capacity to 3,260 MW.[1] An environmental impact assessment for the two additional units was submitted in 2014.[2][3]
In November 2016 the Shaanxi Government sent a letter to the Central government's inspector team saying it planned to shelve Binchang power station because it would violate environmental regulations in the province. According to the letter, it was the Xianyang city government's idea to develop the power plant.[4] However, the plant appeared in a list of major projects planned by Shaanxi province for 2019.[5]
In 2021, there had been no further developments, and the project appeared to be shelved. The project was presumed to be cancelled in 2023.
