Birch River Mine Complex is a surface mine located 60 miles east of Charleston, near Cowen in Webster County, West Virginia. The mine is owned by International Coal Group (ICG). ICG owns about 14.9 million tons of coal reserves. Approximately 79% of the coal reserves are leased.[1]
