Background

The port is owned by PT Borneo Indobara. In 2023, the parent company reported that it will use some capex to increase the capacity of the port.[1] In mid-2024, the company on LinkedIn further reported that is boosting Bunati Port's capacity to support increased coal output in South Kalimantan. The port, currently handling up to 17 barges per day, will soon accommodate 18-19 barges daily. With a new coal crushing plant set to start operations in September, production capacity will jump from 8,450 to 10,400 tons per hour.[2]

The port handled 25.6 million tonnes of coal in 2022 and 30 million tonnes in 2023, according to an industry report.[3][4]
