Background
Burnpur Cement Limited started operations in the cement industry in October 1991 with a small cement plant of 30 tonnes per day (tpd) in Asansol, West Bengal, India, to produce Portland Slag Cement. The company later embarked on a backward integration project by putting up an 800 tpd Clinkerisation and Cement grinding unit at Patratu Industrial Area, Jharkhand, India.[1] Burnpur Cement started trial production from its new grinding plant at Patratu in Jharkhand on 23 May 2015. Full production, including clinker, started later in 2015 when the clinker line was completed.[2]
In November 2023, Aditya Birla Group firm UltraTech Cement acquired a 0.54 mtpa cement grinding assets of Burnpur Cement Ltd, at Patratu at a consideration of INR 169.79 crore.[3][4]
