Background
In 2020 and 2021 Mexico's federal electricity commission CFE announced that it would invest in public-private partnerships to develop six to eight new combined cycle power plants throughout the country, including the CCC Baja California IV Cerro Prieto project.[6][7][8] Several media outlets announced the plant's capacity as 527 MW, a slightly lower figure than the 588 MW capacity cited in the plant's 2020 environmental impact report.[9]
The CCC Baja California IV project appeared in CFE's 2020 annual report with a projected capacity of 539 MW[10], and in CFE's 2021-2025 business plan with an anticipated start-up date of 2027[11], but it has not appeared in more recent versions of either document, so the project was presumed to be shelved as of October 2024.
