Background

The CCC Riviera Maya (Valladolid) power station is one of several new combined cycle power projects initiated during the six-year term of Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024).

Construction of the plant got underway in January 2022 and was slated for completion by January 2025.[14] In February 2022, Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) awarded contracts to the Spanish companies Técnicas Reunidas and TSK for design and execution of the plant, with the Japanese company Mitsubishi Power providing the turbine technology.[15]

Official government estimates of the plant's capacity have ranged from 1020 MW[14][16][17] to 1037 MW[18] to 1131.87 MW.[17]

Construction was said to be 74.67% complete as of Dec 31, 2023[17], and 94% complete by September 2024.[16]

As of September 2024, Mexico's federal electricity commission CFE anticipated that the plant would begin commercial operations on schedule in January 2025.[16]
