Background
The CCC Tuxpan Phase I power station is one of several new combined cycle power projects initiated during the six-year term of Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (2018-2024).
Official government estimates of the plant's capacity have ranged from 1056 MW[10][11][12] to 1086 MW[13] to 1151.30 MW.[12]
Construction of the plant got underway in February 2022 and was slated for completion by May 2025.[10] Construction was said to be 65.60% complete as of Dec 31, 2023[12], and 79.3% complete by September 2024.[11]
As of September 2024, Mexico's federal electricity commission CFE anticipated that the plant would begin commercial operations in December 2025.[11]
