Background
Calais LNG Terminal was a LNG terminal in Maine, United States.[1] The project was proposed in 2005, but was later dismissed by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in 2012. [2] Before dismissal by FERC, Calais LNG had put the project on hold, ostensibly due to unstable financial markets.[3]
Opposition
Several active community groups actively opposed the project, arguing that the environmental risks outweighed any economic benefits, and that the fishing industry would be put at risk. Active opposition groups included the Conservation Law Foundation and the Save Passamaquoddy Bay Three Nation Alliance.[4]
