Background

In January 2013, Cambodia Iron & Steel Mining Industry Group reached a deal to built a 400 km rail line, steel plant and a seaport in Cambodia. The steel plant is planned in Preah Vihear province of Cambodia. The rail link and port were expected to cost $9.6 billion and the steel plant $1.6 billion.[1] the project was expected to begin construction in July 2014 and complete construction by 2018.[2] According to the OECD steelmaking capacity report 2022, the plant is still in planning stage.[3]
