In September 2023, former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly announced his plans to set up a steel plant in Salboni in West Midnapore district. The investment will be to the tune of Rs 2500 crore and primarily 6000 people is expected to have employment in the project. The land previously allotted for the now cancelled JSW Bengal Steel Salboni plant will be utilised for the project.[1] The plant is to have a capacity of one million tonnes per annum and is expected to be completed by 2026.[2]
